  1. Years ago I helped a guy put in a used 454 chevy. It would not turn over. He pulled the plugs a cranked. Still no, but one plug was soaked in funk water. He pulled that head, and one cylinder was full of rusty rain water.

  2. the wrecking yards i know only say it is rebuildable that is the only warranty i have seen from a wrecking yard but i been doing good at getting the 450 hp 454 with the 02xx trans crate setup for free 3 in the last year from 6,000, 38,000 and 56,000 miles on them all run perfect they also come with radiator, oil cooler, power steering cooler with power break unit, extra trans cooler, twin pusher fans, 2 speed for over drive heavy duty engine mounts , switches assorts of stuff that could be used for a build. i priced every thing i pot in my 68 chevy pick up build save thousands just the crate setup with out the serpentine belt setup cost over 15,000 new so for free you just can’t beat it

  3. I purchased a salvage yard engine and had it installed about 20 years ago. Never again. It lasted about 8 months. Granted, the 1.0 Liter 3 Cyl. Geo Metro engine was never good for more than 125-150K miles. It was just a bad experience… but I really hoped to get at least 3 years out of that engine. I should have junked that car and walked away.

  4. For a Euro engine, its better to just go with performance parts to rebuild. The genuine parts are just expensive and often just fail again.
